It's Summer- the sun is shinning, the days are longer- and, oh wait- kids are still kids. Long busy days, mixed in with heat can lead into the occasional (or if you're in my house it's x3) melt downs! We discussed feelings, what they may "look" like, we read a few stories and then put our research to work!

We adore handprint crafts so I always try to find a way to
sneak them into our themes.
These adorable handprint fish are so easy and fun to make with children -
just be forwarned, you will have trouble stopping at just one fish!

I am a huge fan of mixed media art projects. A lot of my own artwork is created using mixed media or collage. The following project is geared towards preschoolers, however you can always change a few items and have it be a wonderful project for children of all ages!

I love using paper towel & toilet rolls for our craft projects!
It is quite amazing what a lil paint & creativity can make out of recycled goods.

Tissue Paper & Foil Rainbow Fish

This week's craft was inspired by one of our favorite books Marcus Pfister's The Rainbow Fish. Using colored tissue paper, glue and some aluminum foil we created some lovely rainbow fish of our very own.



Classified:Mom:
Chalk is such a great, inexpensive medium to do art with. Dry chalk is fun- get it wet with water and it gets even better! The following directions are for the preshcool-first grade child. Older children can create an entire underwater world drawing and painting with both dry and wet chalk.

Using some paper, markers/crayons and a wooden clothspin
you can make your own click beetle and enjoy flipping
him/her through the air!

Fun creatures, such as the octopus or squid, are very fascinating creatures. Difference Between.Net explains very nicely the exact difference between the two. Which ever one you chose to name this craft after, rest assured BOTH creatures have 8 arms!
