S is for Snowflake - Book & Craft Idea #1

We read the Book Snow by Cynthia Rylant - a wonderful story about how snow falls and how it affects those around them. Beautiful illustrations and a lyrical text make this book a winner!

Then we had fun making snowflakes!

Preschool Snowflake Craft

**Create unique snowflake patterns with this simple craft that is fun and encouragse fine motor skills development**

Supplies:
-         paper
-         safety scissors
-         pencil or marker (optional)

Activity:

Note – you can use paper in any shape. I have used squares, rectangles, triangles and circles - all work equally well.

We used circles so that is what I will refer to in this post.

  1. Start with a large circle

    2.   Fold in half

    3.   Fold in half again

**You can fold more for a more detailed design but I find this makes it difficult for younger children to cut through the layers.**

4.   Cut patterns into the paper – you can also have the child design the pattern on the paper before cutting  but I like to just let them do it free hand it’s fun to see what they decide to do as they go along.

5.  Carefully unfold the paper and behold your unique snowflake!

Enjoy!
